James R. Fisher was elected to the Friends Board in June 2009. He is currently President of the HRM Group of Reston, Virginia, a firm that specializes in planning, coordinating and managing national and international government and military conventions and ceremonies and special events. Jim’s career spanned 24 years in the Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of Army’s 10th Special Forces Group followed by several postings in Battalion and Brigade command positions in Germany and the Pentagon as a strategic communications security and support officer.
Of special interest to Friends was Jim’s service under General Kicklighter in the planning of the 50th Anniversary ceremonies commemorating WWII. In this capacity he had experience in working with the White House, the Congress, the Department of Defense and Veteran Service organizations. Since leaving the Army and before taking up his present position with the HRM Group, Jim worked for Capitol Concerts handling the planning and production of the NPS’s annual National Memorial Day Concerts on the West Lawn of the Capitol and also the “A Capitol Forth” event. He has also served as a consultant to the U.S Army National Museum in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on the establishment of its Veterans Outreach Program in cooperation with major American Veteran Service Organizations and the Veterans Administration.
Jim and his wife Cathy live in Montclair, Virginia.
