FAQS
What is "Friends of the National World War II Memorial"?
It is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the District of Columbia in March 2007.  Its purposes are to plan and support commemorative and celebratory events at the Memorial and to enhance the educational experience of those who visit the Memorial.

Who are the Founders?
A small group of private citizens who were closely engaged in the building of the WWII Memorial from its inception, site selection, design, and funding to its construction and formal dedication.  The group includes former members of the American Battle Monuments Commission, the World War II Memorial Advisory Board, Veterans of World War II and other key players involved in bringing the Memorial into being.

Why was it founded?
To fill a need, to help the WWII Memorial become all that it was intended to be – a welcoming gathering place on the main axis of the National Mall where visitors go to remember and honor the spirit of America during World War II, its legacy and sacrifices.  Other private organizations carry out programs at other memorials in Washington.  No such organization existed for the World War II Memorial.  “Friends” was founded to fill this void.

How will it be governed?
Through by-laws approved by its Board of Directors.  The Board will meet twice annually, the Executive Committee quarterly.

How will it be funded?
Through private contributions for an endowment, ongoing operations and special projects and events.  All financial matters, accounting procedures and reporting requirements will be subject to its charter as a non- profit corporation, and as an IRS approved 501 ( C ) (3) organization.
