Clifford Manchester

Clifford Manchester was born in Northeast Harbor, Maine. In 1943, he left high school early to join the Army Air Forces and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he used the GI Bill to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine.

He settled in Waterville, where he worked at the Scott Paper Company, raised a family, and remained active in public service, serving on the Waterville School Board and later as President of the Maine State Board of Education. He courted his future wife, Ruth Haglund, with a bottle of Moxie tucked in his shirt pocket—a memory his family still cherishes. Now residing at the Parker Ridge Retirement Community in Blue Hill, Clifford recently celebrated his 100th birthday. His family is deeply proud of his life, his service, and his enduring kindness.
