Dewey, born on August 5th, 1925, joined the Navy at 18 in 1943. He completed basic training in Sampson, New York, before moving to Boston, MA, for three months of training at Wentworth Institute. From there, he traveled to Richmond, VA, to learn small boat diesel repair, achieving the rank of motor machinist mate 2nd class. After training, he proceeded to California before shipping out to the Asiatic Pacific and ADAC. He was stationed on the USS PC 795 (Picket Boat), transporting soldiers from ship to shore and back to battleships. As a machinist mate 2nd class, he operated the engines below deck. Dewey is still able to walk and is a prostate cancer survivor with no restrictions. He now resides in Fredonia, NY.
