Eugene Freedman

Eugene “Gene” Freedman was born on November 7, 1924, in The Bronx, New York, to Russian immigrant parents who had fled persecution in search of a better life in America. A first-generation American, Gene grew up with a strong sense of duty and gratitude toward his country. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, receiving his commission through the V-12 Navy College Training Program at the University of Notre Dame.

After the war, Gene embarked on a successful career in the gift and novelty industry. In 1947, he began as a salesman for a Milwaukee-based company under his own name, Eugene Freedman Co. He later co-founded Enesco Imports, a subsidiary of N. Shure Co., which became known for its popular collectibles. Gene's leadership and vision helped shape the company into a prominent name in the industry.

Gene was also deeply committed to his community. He was a long-time resident of Bayside, New York, where he was known for his dedication to family and service. On November 7, 2024, he celebrated his 100th birthday, a milestone that many recognized and honored.

Eugene Freedman passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 100. He is remembered as a proud veteran, successful businessman, and devoted family man whose life exemplified the values of hard work, service, and community.
