Harvey Segal

Harvey Segal, born on May 2nd, 1925, joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18, shortly after graduating from Roxbury Memorial High School in Boston, MA. After completing basic training at Fort Bragg, he was assigned to the 37th Field Artillery Battalion of the Second Infantry Division. He landed on Omaha Beach two days after D-Day and fought in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, the Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe, and the Rhineland. He participated in the liberation of the towns of Treviers and Brest, France, and also helped liberate the Leipzig-Schönefeld concentration camp in Germany.

In 2012, Harvey returned to Europe with his wife, children, and grandchildren to retrace the route he took during the war. He also visited Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day and participated in trips to Poland with “The March of the Living,” as well as to Germany. and Belgium with Andrew Biggio, the author of “The Rifle.” Harvey’s signature is featured on the rifle, and he has participated in several book signings with Andrew. In 2013, he received the French Legion of Honor medal.
