Isadore “Sonny” Freedman was born on May 21, 1924, in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to Lillian and Abraham Freedman. He grew up with his three sisters, Frances, Stella, and Rhoda, and spent his summers at Camp Emoh. After graduating from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1942, Sonny enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served honorably during World War II until 1945.
After returning home, Sonny met Charlotte Krinsky, and the two married in 1948. They initially lived in Roxbury and later settled in Sharon, Massachusetts, where they spent 76 devoted years together. Sonny owned Veterans Auto Driving School before working in the garment industry and later at Spoontiques, a giftware company in Stoughton.
Sonny was an active member of his community, serving as an officer and board member of Temple Adath in Sharon, where he helped transform it into a year-round synagogue. He was also involved with the Jewish War Veterans, B’nai B’rith, and the Queen Acres Neighborhood Association.
Sonny passed away peacefully at home on November 27, 2024, at the age of 100. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Charlotte; his children, Richard, Paul, and Lois; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Remembered for his humor, warmth, and pride in his service, Sonny lived a life filled with love, dedication, and laughter.
