Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson

Born in Marine City, Michigan, to Charles E. and Hazel Thompson, Jack was raised in Algonac, where he attended school before joining the United States Navy. He served aboard cargo vessels, where he was said to have climbed the ship’s flagpole daily. His distinguished military service earned him multiple medals and honors.

Following the war, Jack continued a lifelong career in the shipping industry, carrying the discipline, resilience, and integrity he’d cultivated in uniform. On January 20, 1950, he married Evelyn Kimberley, the love of his life for 62 years, until her passing in 2009. In the following years, Jack found companionship and joy again with Nancy Keifer, his devoted partner of the past 15 years.

Those who knew Jack speak of his generous spirit and big heart. He loved animals and children, good conversation, and great company. He enjoyed playing euchre, gathering with friends and family for dinners, and never missing a chance to throw a birthday party for those he loved, especially for his beloved partner, Nancy.

Jack is survived by Nancy Keifer and his nephew Jeremy Vossen, along with countless friends and loved ones whose lives he touched. Though he rarely spoke of his service, Jack did his country proud. Jack Matthew Thompson passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, at the age of 100 in Naples, Florida.
