James McDaid was born on April 25, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, eager to serve his country during a time of global conflict. He was assigned to the USS Phoenix in May 1943, where he participated in significant operations across both the Pacific and European theaters. His service demonstrated unwavering commitment and bravery during one of the most pivotal periods in American history.

After the war, James returned home and built a life characterized by community, integrity, and quiet strength. His legacy as a veteran was widely recognized and celebrated over the years, especially by those who knew him best. In April 2025, family and friends came together to honor his 100th birthday, a tribute to a life well-lived and deeply respected.

Just weeks later, James McDaid passed away in May 2025. His memory lives on as a source of pride and inspiration for everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
