John Rossman

John Rossman was born in the Bronx, New York, on July 8, 1924, and proudly celebrated his 100th birthday on July 8, 2024. He has lived in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the past fifty years, where he is considered an adopted son of the state.

Rossman began his military service in March 1943 with the United States Army. At just 19 years old, he was assigned to the 1st Army, 4th Infantry Division, and participated in the historic landing on Utah Beach during the Allied invasion of Normandy. His bravery continued through the infamous hedgerow fighting as American forces advanced toward Paris, facing intense Nazi resistance.

Following the liberation of Paris, Rossman was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force. He was honorably discharged from the Army in March 1946 after contributing to the campaign that helped free Western Europe from Nazi occupation.

After the war, Rossman earned a bachelor’s degree from New York University in 1956. He then embarked on a distinguished 21-year career as a Treasury Enforcement Agent. His work combating counterfeiting and drug trafficking took him on assignments in London, Paris, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.

In recognition of his service, Rossman was awarded the Treasury Department’s highest career honor, the Albert Gallatin Award. A patriot and great American, John Rossman continues to inspire all who know him.
