"We celebrate the remarkable life of Dr. Julian Gershon Sr., a centenarian whose legacy is woven through both the battlefield and the bedside. As a World War II veteran and a distinguished medical doctor, he has devoted his life to the service of others, leaving an indelible mark on history and the countless lives he has touched."

During World War II, Dr. Gershon answered the call to serve, joining millions of brave soldiers who stood united against the darkness of tyranny. Amid the chaos of war, he displayed immense courage and sacrifice, risking his life for a cause greater than himself. For his service in the 103rd Army Infantry, Dr. Gershon was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star. Still, these accolades only hint at his profound contributions on behalf of freedom and democracy. It is through individuals like Dr. Gershon that future generations have been able to live in peace and prosperity.

After the war, Dr. Gershon moved into the field of medicine, working as a physician. He spent decades caring for patients and healing their bodies, hearts, and minds. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Gershon became known not only for his medical expertise but also for his profound empathy. Whether he was comforting a frightened patient, mentoring young doctors, or advancing medical knowledge, Dr. Gershon approached every task with the same sense of duty that defined his military service. Retiring at the age of 93, Dr. Gershon’s dedication made an indescribable difference in countless lives in Michigan and Florida, where he practiced. Dr. Gershon has often been told that he delivered that person or their family member, reflecting the vast impact and legacy he amassed during his 100 years of life. Dr. Gershon shared that his favorite memory of practicing medicine was the joy of delivering over 4,000 babies born in Clare, Michigan (including some of his own grandchildren).

As we celebrate Dr. Gershon’s 100th birthday, we are reminded of the resilience and determination that have formed the foundation of his journey. Dr. Gershon has devoted his life to giving back, always placing the needs of others above his own. His passion for supporting future generations, particularly athletes, is evident in his dedication and service to them over the years. Even today, his wisdom and kindness continue to inspire those around him, including his influence on his 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The strength of his spirit, the depth of his compassion, and his unwavering dedication to service are a testament to a long, prosperous life well-lived.
