Rayfield “Ralph” Meyer was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 10, 1924. He attended Central High School and, at the age of 19, enlisted in the U.S. Army. During World War II, Ralph served in Europe with the 3rd Armored Division, specifically with the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment. He fought in the Normandy campaign and the Battle of the Bulge. For his bravery in combat, he was awarded the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts.
After the war, Ralph returned to Iowa and married Vicki in 1948. Vicki had served during the war in Colorado Springs, and in 1970, the couple moved with their family to Colorado. Ralph became a business owner in the Littleton community and remained a lifelong baseball enthusiast. He was a founding member of the Lakewood 50+ softball league, where he played until the age of 91. He also loved fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors with his family in Colorado.
Now 100 years old, Ralph still lives in the home he and Vicki purchased in 1974. Known for his infectious laugh and endless stories, he remains a cherished friend and neighbor.
