Roy Englert Sr.

Roy Englert Sr.

Roy Englert Sr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 11, 1922. He graduated early from Vanderbilt University and subsequently attended Officer Candidate School at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. During World War II, he served as an officer aboard a Landing Ship, Tank (LST), participating in the invasions of Normandy, Southern France, and Okinawa.

After his discharge in 1946, Roy returned to Nashville, where he was married to his wife for 65 years. He then went back to Columbia University to earn his law degree and began a long and distinguished career in the legal field.

In retirement, Roy dedicated himself to competitive running, competing in track meets well into his later years. He garnered national recognition for his athletic achievements, including a feature on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Roy T. Englert Sr. passed away on December 11, 2024, at the age of 102 in Lake Ridge, Virginia. We celebrate a life marked by service, strength, and enduring vitality.
