Vernon Corbin

Vernon Corbin

Vernon Leslie Corbin, born on February 20, 1924, served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II. From 1943 to 1945, he was assigned to Company F, 383rd Regiment, 96th Infantry Division known as the "Deadeyes." He fought valiantly in the Pacific Theater, participating in crucial campaigns, including the battles of Leyte in the Philippines and Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands.

For his valor and distinguished service, Vernon received three Battle Stars, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Philippine Liberation Presidential Unit Citation.

After the war, he settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. His wartime memories were recorded in an oral history interview at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and are now preserved as part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. His story is also featured in the Deadeye Division’s oral history archive, ensuring that his experiences are honored and remembered.
