William P. Younkins

Rev. William P. Younkins was born on June 1, 1924, in the coal mining town of South Fork, Pennsylvania. As a young man, he worked in the coal mines and steel mills of western Pennsylvania before joining the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater as part of the Air Transport Division, becoming one of the first American soldiers to enter Japan after its surrender. He attained the rank of sergeant.

Following the war, William pursued a life of faith and service. He earned a Th.B. from Nyack College and an M.A. in Religious Education from New York University. Ordained in 1956 with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, he served for over four decades as the pastor of the Bellmore congregation in LongIsland, New York.

In retirement, Rev. Younkins has continued to guide others as a mentor to candidates for ordination and as a visitation minister. A longtime resident of the South Shore, he remains active in his community, participating in local civic efforts and enjoying the peaceful views of the Great South Bay from his home.
