WWII In Italy Tour

New York Times best-selling author Alex Kershaw (The Liberator, Against All Odds) will lead your tour every step of the way as you journey to Italy and experience the heroism and sacrifice of America and her Allies during the Italian campaign.

The journey will begin in Rome on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 and will conclude on Monday, October 16, 2023. Using Rome as our base for the week, we’ll explore the Eternal City during World War II and visit the legendary battlefields of Monte Cassino, San Pietro, and Anzio.

THE ETERNAL CITY (Days 1 and 2)

We assemble at the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel, in the heart of Piazza della Repubblica, to meet our guide and fellow travelers and to enjoy a meal overlooking the sites of Rome. We then spend a full day discovering Rome with visits to famous landmarks such as the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon.

MOUNTAINS AND MONTE CASSINO (Day 3)

We leave Rome and explore San Pietro, subject of John Huston’s famous film, and visit the site of the bloody Rapido River crossings, the wondrous Abbey of Monte Cassino and nearby Polish cemetery.

THE VATICAN AND WWII (Day 4)

We learn about Pope Pius XII, explore the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel, Saint Peter’s Basilica, and St. Angelo Castle.

MUD AND MEN (Day 5)

We leave Rome once more and explore the landing beaches and battlefield of Anzio, paying our respects in a special service at the Anzio Nettuno graveyard.

MUSSOLINI’S ROME (Day 6)

We take a deep dive into WWII in Rome, visiting Gestapo headquarters on the Via Rasella, the Basilica di San Lorenzo, the Ardeatine Fosse, the Museum of Liberation, the Palazzo Venezia and Mussolini's base of power.
